Keep Your Bathroom Mildew Free With The Right Motorhome Bathroom Fan

Generally, a bathroom fan is used to protect the home against moisture and mold damage and also to improve the general comfort of the space in question. Moist air from tubs, showers and other fixtures tends to accumulate on bathroom surfaces, leading to instances of peeling paint, rot as well as growth of mildew and mold. A fan that’s been properly installed in the bathroom does provide the room with adequate ventilation by simply drawing humid air as well as odors out of the home. When choosing a motorhome bathroom fan, there are certain factors one has to take into consideration so as to ensure that he or she gets the best fan possible.

You must ensure that the fan you are choosing is powerful enough to adequately ventilate your bathroom. When doing this, it is important to determine the actual room size by getting the right cubic feet per minute (CFM) ratings. This rating does measure the overall volume of air that the fan moves. The rule of thumb when checking CFM ratings is that for rooms which have been fitted with 8 foot ceilings; a room that’s less than 50 square foot should be fitted with a 50CFM fan. For a bathroom that’s between 50CFM and 100CFM, users are advised to estimate at least 1CFM per square foot. You should plan for 50 CFM for each toilet, shower or tub in the motorhome. In the event that your bathroom is fitted with an enclosed toilet area, then you should get another fan for this space.

You should also look for the unit’s sones rating which is basically an indication of the sound level. The lower the sone rating, the quieter the fan is bound to be. Any fan with a sones rating of one (1) or less does operate at the sound level of a refrigerator.

The most common models are the ceiling mount fans which connect to an exhaust duct, however, one can also opt for the wall mount bathroom units which are designed for rooms where venting in the ceiling is not possible, they are very common in motorhomes . They vent directly to the outside with very little if any ductwork.

If you have some ductwork, it is recommended that you ensure that the size of the exhaust port on the fan you want to purchase does fit your ductwork. However, most units tend to have a diameter of four inches or thereabouts.

It is also worth mentioning that a bathroom fan will only be listed for installation over showers and bathtubs if it’s connected to a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protected branch circuit. It is also important to ensure that the fan you are buying will not overload the electrical circuit in your motorhome. Generally, the larger the motor, the more power it is bound to draw. Additional features such as lights and heaters tend to draw more power as well.

Other features you should consider include having a unit with room light and built-in heater which can be used to keep the room warm and comfortable. There are also units that come with mobile device connectivity which allows you to stream some music to a built in speaker. Additionally, there are units with motion and humidity sensors which automatically help reduce moisture levels, turning them off and on as required.
